So learning from last week, I’d asked Hilly if I could finish half hour earlier on Friday night meaning I could get home and have a nice bowl of pasta before going to bed. This and remembering to take water out on the course with me helped me to knock 13 seconds off last week’s time
I think I would have been even quicker if I hadn’t been quite nervous on the down hills, but anyone who’s seen the state of my knee and elbow this week will understand why!
Despite my best efforts I couldn’t get a proper nights sleep, so woke feeling irritable and over tired, not exactly the best start to a 5k, next week I’m off shift so am aiming to have a more relaxed night’s sleep . Am also planning to stop putting all my effort into the first hill abd just walk up the thing instead, hopefully meaning I’ll have much more energy for the flat bits and on the next attempt I may even try being a bit braver down hill as well …
For the second week running, I managed to avoid the photographer, but am now wondering if it’s more to do with looking really unamused on all the photos he’s captured me on so has decided not to publish them
Still warm enough to go for walk in the park without a coat or jumper, but there are definite signs Autumn its on its way!
So it looks like the photographer only caught me on the last 500m race to the finish, which is good as I’m sure any where else on the course, I would have looked like I was about to thump who ever was in front of me and in my way
The official timer shows I finished in just over 46 minutes and 39 seconds, but I started just over 10, so about 36 minutes is the time to beat for this course next year
We did it, managed to get out of bed in time and to Bramhall to do the run. It was a lot more hilly than the London race I did last week, but the people running were a lot faster so no crowded course for me this time! Apparently Gra can run up hills better than me, so finished before me, although in my defence I did take a tumble down the concrete hill and left a trail of blood to prove I’d been there!
The photographer managed to get a shot of Gra on the first lap, but i managed to avoid getting caught on camera
I completed the course in about 36 minutes, which was an improvement on last year, but despite what saying on Sunday, I have to admit I felt very disappointed in my time.
Last year I felt like I spent the first 2k dodging around other people, so this year I started at the back of the 30-35 minutes wave. However, the people in front must’ve had similar ideas as I had the same problem as last year, but this time for the whole course! There were a lot of people taking part (my race number was 14107!), which is great as it meant a lot of money being raised for worthwhile courses. However the downside is the course was extremely congested and it was very rare that I felt I could actually run. For at least the first half, I felt like I could have been jogging, but the people in front were jogging at my walking speed. I’m dreading seeing the official photos, as I’m sure I look really annoyed on them and probably have a bright red face!
On the plus point, this has completely reficused me on training for the half marathons coming next year and the planned marathon the year after. Methinks I need to get my arse out of bed on staurday mornings and to Bramhall Park, where there’s a free timed 5k run each week. Hopefully the next ‘offical’ run in Rhyl in October, will go better
The winner of The Audience Award in the World Statue Championships that were held last week in Amsterdam.
I’ve promised to be impressed if I hear him on Rock fm, although seeing as he knows less than nothing about music, I may die laughing instead
This year it’s only being held at London, instead of Birmingham and Liverpool as well. Last year I managed the course in approx 38 mins, it’s self timed, so I didn’t have an accurate reading. As long as I beat that this year, I’ll be happy!
