This is what my housemate and his son get up to whilst I go to work

Now conspiracy theorists are usually perceived as a bit geeky, so rather than try to persuade anyone that the moon landing was faked, i’ll leave you with just a few questions…

If we could make it to the moon in 1969, why hasn’t anyone been there since?

If there’s no air on the moon, what’s making the flag move in the picture above?

If Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, who was taking the photographs?

In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover’s fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.

But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang, thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI.’

However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis’ men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptised as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous “Lady in Red’’ to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

The concept of this film is very similar to Depp’s previous work in Blow, which I loved. Whilst Public Enemies was very well acted and did give a good feel of 1930’s America, I felt it dragged in places and was missing that special ’something’ that could have turned it into a superb film. Possibly one I’d watch again if it was on tv when I was flicking through the channels, but definitely not one I’ll be rushing out to buy on dvd.

Mum took a pic of Saima dressed as a tiger for her school play last week and Areej insisted on having her photo taken as well :-)

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

Unlike the other films which I’d watched before or shortly after reading the books, it feels like there has been long time between reading this book when it first came out to the film being released. This meant that I could only vaguely remember what happened, so I could enjoy the film rather than concentrating on what had been cut from the plot or done differently to how I had imagined. I don’t think it was the strongest of the films so far, but has done an excellant job of building the tension in preparation for the final chapter and showing how much life has changed for the characters from the previous films.

Certainly ain’t no way for me to make a living

Last week I was on days as a favour to Fiona and much to the amusement of the day staff, it almost killed me! Now I know that might sound a bit melodramatic, but having worked lates for the best part of the last decade, I’m more accoustomed to an American time zone than English. My body clock was completely out, I had no idea when I was meant to be eating, so as a result hardly ate anything for most of the week, and it certainly wasn’t as healthy as normal. The thing I just could not get over though, was how drained I felt all the time! I know I don’t have the most active life style and am by no means a gym-aholic, but this week I’ve barely had the energy to walk to the bus stop!

On the plus point, I’ve earned brownie points with senior managers for doing this, have actually enjoyed the work I’ve been doing and feel like I’ve become better acquainted with the day team. Even with all that in mind, I can’t wait to get back to ‘normal’ hours next week :-)

For anyone still chuckling to themselves at my self pitying rant, all I can suggest is you start work 4 hours earlier than your used to and get up another 2 hours before that and see how you feel ;-)

Me and anna went up to Marple this afternoon to have lunch with Auntie Annie at Ring O’ Bells, as always the food was delicious :-) As it was a nice sunny day anna mentioned she wouldn’t mind walking home. Now as part of my training I’ve walked to work and/or back a few times recently so was quite open to the idea, but then she said she wanted to walk by the canal. I don’t think Anna actually realised that down the canal to Romiley then road back to Edgeley was over 7 miles! Still I’m on days next week, so anything that helps me get to sleep earlier than I’m used to is very welcome!
