October 2008

Out today *Woot!*

Auntie Annie treated me to a meal at Dolce Vita’s tonight and we were both very impressed. I had the Gnocci in spinach and Dolce latte sauce, was very nice and had just the right amount of sauce, so you weren’t overwhelmed by it, but the food wasn’t too dry either.

Auntie Annie had a bit of a Peter Kay moment…she ordered the calzone pizza and when it arrived announced she’d never had a pizza folded in half before…then upon returning home described it on separate phone calls to both Auntie Jackie and Auntie Marge as a pizza like an omlette abroad…folded in half pizza! never hear of that before :-)

Was happy to retrieve the hoody I left at Auntie Annie’s during the summer and have also gained a new one (love you Nicky xx) :-)

Unfortunately, it appears I’m allergic to Annie’s new cat, Moet. I was fine until she came to curl up in my lap (something Smudge would never do!), then I started sneezing and now have a partially closed and very bllodshot left eye…very attractive

A lovely service for a lovely man, wo will be missed by all who knew him.

R.I.P Fred, have a rum and black with Bob for me xx

Enter a world of desperate women, cynical sex and strange fish

Not having a clue what to expect apart from a lot of symbolism, I was very impressed. I absolutely loved the play (and no not just because Beth was in it!). This would be a brilliant play to actually sit down and analyse, so it’s a shame the students in front of us weren’t paying complete attention!

Next showing at:

Rose Theatre, Edge Hill 28 October
Contact Manchester 13 -15 november
Unity Liverpool 20 November

This was taken at my older sister’s house a couple of years back. On the sofa is Mum and Nan (who’d fallen over a few days before and was sporting an impressive black eye) then on the floor we have me and my 2 nieces.

Most of my readers (or at keast the observant ones) will have noticed the Kiva banner that I’ve had on the right hand side of my blog for quite a while now. Kiva is a microfinancing company. In simple terms this means, people like you and me can lend money to help people in poorer countries help themselves.

So how much difference can one person make?

Quite a lot actually. The minimum loan on Kiva is $25, that’s just over a tenner, or the equivalent of a large Dominos pizza. The Kiva site shows people and groups of people who have requested loans and what they would like the money for. You don’t have to loan the full amount requested, any multiple of $25 that you feel comfortable with.

The latest addition to the Kiva site means that once a repayment is made, you are able to re-loan or withdraw the money, so you can help as many people as possible.

We all know the saying, give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him to fish, he can eat for the rest of his life. By helping someone through Kiva, you’re teaching them to fish.
