Of Mice and Men

Today’s friendly against Cardiff was bound to be emotional following the death of Danny Bergara during the week and was made even more special as the club had dedicated the day to him. By spooky coincidence the team we were already lined up to play is managed by Dave Jones, who Danny brought to the club along with Jim Gannon and the visitors have strong links to County, with several team members once having been Blues.
The festivities started at ten to 3 when all of County’s staff lined up to a round of applause and then EP fell silent as Sinatra’s ‘My way’ was played over the tanoy. Jim and Dave then made their way through the line up of County and Cardiff players to lay a wreath in the Cheadle End goal followed by Danny’s grandsons who placed County scarves next to it. The stadium then erupted into ‘Danny Bergara’s Blue n White Army’ with even the away fans joining in. According to the itinerary, this was only intended to be a 2 minute chant, but lasted well into the first half and started again each time a goal was scored.
The score line ended up 6-4 to County and I can’t think of a more fitting tribute for a man who played such an important role in the club’s history.
When I saw this week’s topic, these pics sprung to mind, which were taken on our family holiday to Florida back in the Summer of 04 at Busch gardens.

County legend Danny Bergara died yesterday after recently suffering from 2 strokes.
Danny managed County between ‘89 and ‘95 playing a vital role in County’s most successful period in the league.

I am still here popping in to check e-mails, facebook and declarations of war etc, but can mainly be found after work in my pjs reading Harry Potter, which arrived literally 2 minutes before I had to leave for work yesterday!
Don’t worry, once the annoying work thing is over tomorrow, I’ll finish my book and normal service will be resumed and any messages that need to will be replied to!

The last Harry Potter book is out today…apparently the postman will be bringing 2 to our door! Hopefully before I have to go to work…..

Thanks for everyone’s best wishes for better weather, we have had a couple of warmer days this week, but as much as I’ve been trying to blow the rain over to the US, it’s still here!
The week’s picture was taken at Etherow Park in Compstall a couple of months back, just after the new ducklings had been born. I got this pic of a mallard with a couple of ducklings following behind him…they were absolutely TINY!
