We’ve had a hosepipe ban this Summer, as apparently this year’s been really dry, but as you can see in the pics of the river below, it has a lot more water in it now than a couple of weeks ago when Rex had his paddle!

Today I took the dog for a walk along the Trans Pennine Trail starting just up the road from our house, along the banks of the River Mersey, up to Burnage Rugby club and back. If it wasn’t for the sound of the cars whizzing by on the M60, it would be very easy to forget how close to civilisation we were!

Been a few weeks since I last played with work getting in the way! Right now I’m meant to be out walking the dog or cleaning the house before visiting Nan. Instead I’m playing on Facebook! I love the games on there, but they are so addictive, it is way too easy to say ‘I’ll just have one more game’ and if someone beats my top score, I have to play again and again til I’m back on top! At the moment, I’m playing Three Towers Solitaire.

What are you favourite Fb games, or if you’re not on FB, what are your ways to distract yourself from doing what you’re meant to be?

Sarah and Jon renewed their vows today, 10 years after their wedding. Sarah looked absolutey stunning (even with a pint in her hand!). We all had a brilliant time at the reception, although my feet may be very sore in the morning :-)

Some readers will have already met GP Sue, her daughters Frankie and Lola, her husband Matthew, and their unexpected surprise addition to the family, Tom. In this delightful sequel, we are a year on…

Sue is a GP, her busy life filled with demanding but lovable patients, demanding but lovable children, a husband, and a new dog. But she has just enough time to notice the rather gorgeous neighbour who walks his black lab in the park. Frankie is about to do her GCSEs, and is absolutely certain that no-one is as stressed as she is, nor as in love, nor as confused. Lola is eleven, and endearingly aware of those around her, including all her friends (and whether they are, or not), her Granny, her pain-in-the-neck but scrumptious new baby brother, and the fact that her Dad is spending a lot of time texting. And when she sneaks a peek at his calls, there are far too many to someone called Laura. Suddenly, Lola feels overburdened with guilt and responsibility, so just what is she to do?

Whilst doing the review for the first book, I realised there had been a sequel, so bought it immediately from Amazon (at 1p plus postage you can’t really complain!). This is as delightful and easy to read as the first, with the added benefit of life from Lola’s perspective. My only complaint is it ended a bit too abruptly and with this book being published in 2006, it doesn’t look like a follow up up is likely :-(

Sue is a forty-six year old GP, mother of two, wife of one. Frankie is her elder daughter, just fourteen, ready to start out in life. The pair are diametrically opposite in years and energy, yet both teeter on the brink of the next big thing.

For Sue, forty-six meeting fourteen is where menopause matches adolescence, anxiety is a mother’s middle name, and the new best thing is going to bed. And Frankie? She’s thrown off the sugar and spice chrysalis, is surgically attached to her mobile phone, and is learning about boys, padded bras and the absurdities of her parents.

Nothing in common? Well, for starters weight worries, man troubles and a shared desire to break free of the shackle that is home. Oh, and their emails and diaries…

Wickedly funny, perceptive and at times very tender, WHAT ABOUT ME? is a wonderful portrait of real life in an average household, sure to strike a familiar chord with mothers and daughters everywhere.

As we’re moving office, we had no systems tonight and so little work for me to do, apart from watching the others clean the office whilst I manned the non ringing phones. However, this book was found amongfst the stuff to be thrown out, so with the phones so quiet I had a read. This does have some genuine laugh out loud moments and I’d recommend it to any teenage girl, to see what life may be like for their mothers and also to any mothers to remind them what life is like as a teenager!

Pics taken on the way home from the South Manchester run…possibly proof that early morning exercise makes you goa little crazy!

Today’s question is:

What made you smile today?

This used to be one of the questions I had to ask when doing recruitment intervews for smile.co.uk, the Internet bank I worked for, as an ice breaker question.

I always thought it was really cheesy (and some of the answers we used to get were even worse!), but it came to mind as my Nan really made me smile today.

Nan has Alzeihmer’s so any displays of affection are warmly welcomed and today I was on the receiving ends of hugs kisses and ‘I love you’s :-)

After another manic week, I’m going to chill tonight with my feet up in front of the tv with a pizza. Tonight I’m going to have pineapple and peppers for my toppings, what are your favourites?
